How To Conquer The Procrastination  That's Stopping You Achieving Your Goals

So how do you beat procrastination?

Simple, you strip it back to its root cause.

If you understand the real reason WHY you’re procrastinating, you’re one step closer to beating it.

Want to know the single biggest reason people procrastinate?

Fear.

Your brain is hard-wired to resist change to protect you from the unknown. We were made this way millions of years ago when life was a whole lot more deadly and dangerous.

But now, millions of years later, our brains haven't caught up. So, when a situation feels uncertain, fear will override everything and create excuses to prevent you from getting hurt.

Your fears become thought patterns that keep you stuck in a rut. Even though you want to do something different – change jobs, make a relationship decision, move towns – you self-sabotage and keep busy doing all the wrong things.

Your days feel as if you’re in constant damage control instead of moving closer to a better life.

So what’s the answer? You need to learn how to understand your thoughts and why you believe you can’t handle the things you fear. Your brain needs retraining.

Here are a few simple steps you can follow to get you started:

​STEP 1

Think about the real reason you’re scared. What’s the real reason for your struggle? Ask yourself why you're not taking action.

STEP 2

Imagine there are no consequences and set a goal you’d love to achieve if your thoughts were unable to stop you.​ Write it down.

STEP 3

Change your story by separating yourself from your negative thoughts – remember, you are not your thoughts. Treat them as things and question the validity of each thought.

STEP 4

Identify the rewards that will make the change worth it to boost your motivation. Again, write them down.

STEP 5

Break down your goal into manageable steps and take action. Chunk them together into 3-5 groups with smaller steps within each group.
